The Disney Movie Rewards Programme

WHEN IT comes to Disney I like to think of myself as pretty in-the-know, however I was stunned to find out that you can quite easily get free Disney DVDs directly from the mouse himself!

Thanks to Disney Find on Instagram, I was made aware of the Disney Movie Rewards programme. This is a scheme where each time you buy Disney or Pixar DVDs or Blu-Rays or other selected merchandise, you get a code that you enter online. Now I had seen these codes before, but like my friends who I have since told about this as well, I thought the rewards would be pretty, well to put it politely, rubbish. I assumed the rewards were similar to other schemes I had heard of and were gifts such as a downloadable screensaver, or a printable bookmark or free music download, I never expected the opportunity to get free DVDs and Blu-Rays to be there!

So how does it work?

Inside your Disney DVDs and Blu-Rays you will find a leaflet usually advertising Disney Cruises, however at the very bottom of that sheet of paper you will find a tiny advert for Disney Movie Rewards and your code.

You then log onto www.disneymovierewards.co.uk and register for an account, or link your Disney account to the rewards scheme.

Once you have done this you then type in your code and then when prompted, the last six digits of the DVDs barcode to get your Disney points. Points vary, however as a general rule you get about 100 points for each DVD and 150 points for each Blu-Ray code entered. You do get more points for box sets, for example my Pixar DVD Collection box set (which you can watch my review of here) got me 350 points but I’m not sure about other values.

Once you've entered all your codes you go to the rewards section of the website and choose your free gifts. There are lots of things to choose from including: stickers, activity packs money off vouchers, DVDs and Blu-Rays. The cost of rewards range from 5-1200 points. Most DVDs cost 500-600 points and Blu-Rays cost 700-900 points depending on the title. This means that you will need to buy five DVDs or Blu-Rays to get one free.

This is an attractive offer from Disney as their DVDs do not reduce in value over time due to their “Disney Vault” selling strategy. This means that titles are only on sale for select periods of time before they are discontinued and placed in “the vault” for several years. Therefore, Disney films that are now nearly 80-years-old still cost as much as films released on DVD last week.

As some of my DVDs were quite old and were bought before the rewards programme started I had a few DVDs without codes. However, after entering all of my new DVDs my rewards points came to the grand total of 1150 points. I chose Lady and the Tramp at 600 points and Cinderella at 500 points for my rewards.

Delivery is fast and free, unlike some other schemes and takes up to seven days for your DVDs or Blu-Rays to arrive.

So hopefully now I’ve made more of you aware of this great scheme from Disney, once again thanks to Disney Find for alerting me to it!
